take control | gain muscle | lose weight

Progress takes time and discipline.

Verdescent

  • Chasing a fitness goal is very much like a science experiment. We want to change one variable at a time and see the results. Then we want to change another variable and see the results.

Implementing smaller changes leads to smarter decision making as well as a higher adoption of the change.

In short, Verdescent strives to get the most from the least rather than implementing extreme changes for fast results.

  • Getting results is great! Always having those results is even better!

The internet likes to push the latest fads: extreme workouts, crash diets, fast transformations. Do these work? Yes, without a doubt they work…but only while you’re actively doing them.

Verdescent wants you to be successful. Forever. That’s why you will get the most from the least so you can build a lifestyle instead of moving from fad to fad.

  • If you want, you can lose weight eating a diet of only Twinkies. Changing your weight is dictated by the amount of energy you ingest compared to the amount of energy you expend.

At Verdescent, we can be as extreme as you want. We can provide a completely new diet, or we can make tweaks to your existing diet. It’s mostly a numbers game.

I train as smart as I can. I’m not concerned what others think. I do what works for me.
— Phil Heath, 7x Mr. Olympia

Training

  • Everybody is different, yes, but read the title again.

    Every BODY is different.

Training protocols are not a one size fits all solution. Everybody and every body is different, and training philosophy needs to match your body.

  • Your body changes as it adapts to the stresses placed upon it. If you’re unable to adapt, you’ll be unable to see changes or progress. This adaptation is achieved when you are recovering.

Every workout is like digging a hole. Recovery is filling in the hole so that you have fresh dirt to dig during the next workout. We don’t want to dig a hole so deep that you’re unable to fill it again before the next workout.

  • The most common form of Progressive Overload is, of course, adding weight during weight training or increasing speed during cardio. But these are not the most useful tools for longevity.

Your body does not know if it is lifting 10 or 100 pounds, it only knows that it is exerting enough tension and torque to deal with the stress being placed upon it. “Heavy” is a relative term within the confines of executing the movement properly.

The same applies to speed. The body does not know if it is walking 1 mile per hour with an extreme incline or if it is running 5 miles/hour on a flat surface, it only knows that it needs enough oxygen and blood flow to deal with the stress being placed upon it.

Accordingly, we want your muscles, heart, and lungs to work properly against the appropriate amount of stress and tension to elicit an adaptive response. This can be achieved in other ways than simply adding more weight or going faster.

Is it 10g of protein more or 10g of protein less, who cares, just get started.
— Kai Greene, 3x Arnold Classic Champiion

Nutrition

  • Everybody is different, yes, but read the title again.

    Every BODY is different.

Nutrition not a one size fits all solution. Everybody and every body is different, and what you eat needs to match your goals and digestive capabilities.

You aren’t what you eat; you are what you can absorb.

  • A fire gets hot by feeding it small twigs more frequently. Over time, you can feed the fire larger pieces of wood to keep it burning bright. If you don’t feed the fire for a long period of time, it becomes smaller and smaller until it goes out. This is desirable for both losing weight and building muscle.

  • We can eliminate a lot of guesswork with our diets by eating foods typically found on the perimeter of the grocery store. This includes fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry, dairy, and grains.

These foods are also much easier to track when counting macronutrients and calories, and they are (typically) much easier to digest, which helps the metabolism burn hotter.

Of course, these foods are not the end-all be-all.

I strongly believe that the right supplements can be a game changer when trying to reach your fitness goals.

Supplementation

  • The health and fitness industry has done an amazing job marketing supplement products as being an essential part of peoples’ lives. This is far from the truth.

Supplements fill in the gaps that may exist after the foundation has been secured.

Verdescent will never ask you to spend money on these well marketed items; but they are tools to enhance your fitness journey.

They can be added to help you in your achieving your fitness goals to supplement the foundation that already exists.
